Dheerajlal Hiralal Ambani, also known as Dhirubhai. He was born on 28 December 1932 in a simple teacher’s house in Chorvad, a small village near Junagadh, Gujarat.
His father Hirachand Gordhanbhai Ambani was a simple teacher. And his mother Jamnaben was a housewife. For whom it was very difficult to raise their large family.
His father’s job could not even meet the money for household expenses. In such a situation, it was very difficult for Dhirubhai Ambani to study among three brothers and one sister.
In such a situation, Dhirubhai Ambani had to leave high school in the middle and started supporting his father in some work like selling bhajia to run his house.

Seeing the economic condition of his house, Dhirubhai Ambani first started selling fruits and snacks, but seeing no special benefit in this, he started selling pakoras in a religious and tourist place near the village. Later, Dhirubhai stopped this work and started doing a job on the advice of his father. After a lot of failures, Dhirubhai Ambani decided to get a job in Yemen with the help of his elder brother Ram ji and he did his first job at Shell Company’s petrol pump. And after working for about two years, he reached the position of manager with his hard work, dedication, and ability.
At that time he was always looking for an opportunity to do business. It is said that when he used to work at the petrol pump, then the workers used to get tea for only 25 paise.
But Dhirubhai Ambani used to drink tea for ₹ 1 in a big hotel instead of taking that tea. So that he can listen to the talk of big businessmen coming and going to that restaurant and understand the nuances of the business.
